The Bantay Bell Tower, also known as Bantay Tower (meaning "to guard" in Ilocano), once stood as a watchtower against pirate attacks during the Spanish colonial era. Today, it’s an iconic spot for tourists and history lovers visiting Vigan.
📌 Fun Fact: It’s the first structure you’ll notice when entering the Bantay Church compound.

⛪ Bells That Tell Stories: Wedding, Baptism, and Farewell
Climb the tower and you’ll find three ancient bells still resting atop:
- 🔔 Wedding Bell – Left side
- 🔔 Baptismal Bell – Right side
- 🔔 Funeral Bell – Center, once used to mourn the departed
👣 According to the caretaker, each bell still resonates with its unique past.
🌄 Climb With Caution,
Stay for the View
Yes, the stairs are old, creaky, and wooden — and they will squeak under your feet. But don’t let that scare you off. The panoramic view of Vigan and the surrounding landscapes from the top is breathtaking.
🌤️ Once at the summit, you’ll understand why this was the ideal spot to keep watch — and maybe even feel a sense of calm.
📸 Photography Tip: Capture the view of the church from above for a postcard-worthy angle.
