✨ Once the seat of the Philippine Commonwealth Government during World War II, the Leyte Provincial Capitol in Tacloban City isn’t just a building—it’s a national landmark wrapped in neoclassical charm.
Constructed in 1917 and completed in 1924, it played a vital role in history when President Sergio Osmeña, Sr. temporarily transferred the seat of government here in 1944. The structure was later renovated 40 years after, further beautifying the façade while preserving its cultural legacy.
π¨ On both sides of the
Capitol, you'll find large murals commemorating key historical events:
– The First Christian Mass in Limasawa
– Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s Landing in Leyte Gulf
π My Quick Stop Story
We were just on our way to Leyte Park for a night out when this glowing white structure stopped us in our tracks. Its soft lights shining against the white paint gave it a majestic glow. I remember asking the tricycle driver, “Kuya, pwede bang dumaan muna tayo rito?” πΈ
Even though the building was already closed when we arrived, we didn’t waste a minute. We took a bunch of photos in front—this was one of those rare times when a building really felt like it was calling you to admire it.
π Tip: Visit late in the afternoon or early evening to catch that picture-perfect glow when the lights come on. It’s magical!
