π¨ Staying at Silka Seaview Hotel, Yau Ma Tei: My Experience & How to Get There
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly, clean, and conveniently located hotel in Hong Kong, Silka Seaview Hotel in Yau Ma Tei is a solid pick. During our trip, we stayed here mainly because it was just a short walk to the Jade Market and Temple Street Night Market—which, if you're into cultural finds and bargain-hunting, are must-visits!
But while the location is great, getting there with luggage was a bit of a challenge—here’s a detailed guide based on my personal experience, plus some tips to make it easier for you.
✈️ From Hong Kong International Airport to Silka Seaview Hotel
- Clear immigration and customs, then head to the Airport Express train.
- Take the Airport Express and get off at Tsing Yi Station.
- Transfer to the Tung Chung Line (platform 4) toward Hong Kong, and get off at Lai King Station.
- At Lai King, change to the Tsuen Wan Line (platform 2) toward Central and alight at Yau Ma Tei Station.
- From Yau Ma Tei Station, take Exit C and walk up to Nathan Road.
⚠️ Note: Yau Ma Tei Station doesn’t have elevators or escalators. Expect to carry your luggage up two long flights of stairs. It was exhausting with a heavy suitcase—but doable!
πΊ️ Walking Directions from Nathan Road
- At the top of Exit C, turn right on Nathan Road.
- Walk past Kings de Nathan Hostel on your right.
- Keep walking until you see a basketball court on your right and Eaton Hotel across the street.
- Turn right when you see the court, and walk past Temple St. and Arthur St.
- The hotel is at the next corner, facing the Yau Ma Tei Community Centre Rest Garden.
π Travel Time:
About 45 minutes from the airport
π°
Cost: ~HK$65 (≈US$8.33) using Octopus Card
π«
Tip: Octopus Card is accepted throughout, and platform
interchanges are free when using it.
π From Anywhere in Hong Kong
If you're coming from elsewhere in the city:
- Just head to the nearest MTR Station,
- Take the Tsuen Wan Line (red line),
- And alight at Yau Ma Tei Station — then follow the walking directions above.
π Pro Tip: Download the MTR Mobile App or use Google Maps with live transit to help you navigate the platform interchanges faster.
π In-Town Shuttle Service
π Silka Seaview offers a complimentary shuttle bus service to specific drop-off points within the city. It’s handy if you're headed to major shopping or business districts.
π Ask the reception for the latest schedule and available routes—they sometimes update the list based on demand.
π My Personal Take on the Hotel
✔️ Clean and comfy beds
✔️
Decent space for a Hong Kong budget hotel
✔️
Fast Wi-Fi (important for blogging and uploads!)
✔️
Superb location for night markets and local eats
⚠️
Cons: Rooms are small (standard for HK), and the lobby can get busy
during check-in/out time.
π What I loved most? Walking back to the hotel at night, passing street food stalls and trinket vendors under neon lights—it felt like I was walking through a Hong Kong movie scene.
