🛣️ Side Trip: Mahogany Market, Tagaytay (After Your Pico de Loro Hike)

After conquering Mt. Pico de Loro, treat yourself to a hearty and delicious meal! A popular stopover for hikers and road trippers is Mahogany Market in Tagaytay, famous for its bulalo and crispy tawilis.

🗺️How to Get There (from Pico de Loro)

If you're commuting via Nasugbu, or driving through Ternate–Nasugbu Highway, here's how to reach Tagaytay:

🚗 By Private Car:

  • From the DENR jump-off point, head toward Nasugbu-Ternate Highway
  • Follow the road signs to Tagaytay via Alfonso or Mendez
  • 📍 Mahogany Market is located near Tagaytay City Hall
  • 🕐 Estimated Drive Time: 1 to 1.5 hours depending on traffic

🚌 By Commute:

  • From Brgy. Papaya (Nasugbu side), ride a tricycle to the Nasugbu town proper
  • Take a bus or jeepney bound for Tagaytay/Mendez
  • Get off at Mahogany Market
  • 🕐 Travel Time: 1.5–2 hours total

🍲What to Eat at Mahogany Market

You can find several karinderya-style eateries on the second floor of the market serving home-cooked favorites. Here’s what we ordered and loved:

Recommended Dishes:

  • Bulalo350 (Good for 23 persons)
Hot, flavorful, and perfect after a cold mountain hike
  • Crispy Tawilis650 (Good for 8 persons)
Tip: Order the smaller serving for 23 people to save money
  • Saging na saba & coffee – Available at nearby stalls for your post-meal panghimagas
🛍️Bonus: Check out the pasalubong stalls downstairs for fresh beef, coffee, and local goodies!

Tagaytay tends to get chilly in the late afternoon, so bring a light jacket if you plan to stay and stroll around after eating. And don’t forget to take in that beautiful Taal Volcano view before heading home!
