During my trip to Brunei, food was a big part of the adventure! While Brunei isn’t as hyped as other food capitals, it surprised me with diverse options—from cozy cafés to hawker-style eats and even 24-hour diners. Here's a personal roundup of my favorite places to eat in the Sultanate.
☕ Kopi Bandar
“The best find of my trip!”

I loved the homey atmosphere here. The food is delicious, reasonably priced, and the staff made me feel right at home. This was my go-to when I wanted something comforting and satisfying without the touristy markup. Highly recommended if you're in the area!
🍜 Tamu Selera (Night Food Market)
“Authentic local experience—perfect for foodies!”
If you're the adventurous type who loves local flavors, this night market is for you. From grilled seafood to satay, it’s a sensory overload in the best way. It’s not fancy (and can get smoky!), but the vibe is unbeatable. Great for tasting Brunei street food on a budget.
🍗 Seri Mama Restaurant
“Locals love it—and it shows.”
This spot is known for its B$1 fried chicken, which was recommended by our hotel driver. I admit, it wasn't my personal favorite due to the oily smell when we brought it to our room 😅—but I’d still suggest dining in to enjoy it fresh! Locals keep coming back, and that’s always a good sign.
🍣 Kaizen Sushi
“Treat yourself to a fancy meal.”
☕ De Royalle Café
“My Brunei comfortt zone.”
This 24/7 café was my happy place after long days of exploring. I loved the cozy interior, great coffee, and friendly Filipino staff who made me feel welcome. Ideal for digital nomads or anyone looking for a quiet break from sightseeing.
🏨 Jubilee Hotel Restaurant
“Convenient and simple.”
We stayed at Jubilee Hotel, so it was nice to have a decent restaurant right downstairs. The menu is basic, but it’s good enough for tired evenings when you just want to grab a bite and rest.
🥪 Deli Bites & The Mall Foodcourt
“Fast and easy.”
These were our quick fixes when we didn’t have time for a full meal. Deli Bites is great for sandwiches and snacks, while The Mall’s food court has a variety of options, from noodles to rice meals.
🌿 Bonus Must-Try in Brunei:
- Ambuyat – Brunei’s national dish made from sago. We skipped it because of its sticky texture, but it’s a unique local experience for the brave!
Teh Tarik – This creamy pulled tea is a favorite! Sweet, milky, and perfect with almost any local meal.
