For the past two days, I went through one of the most frustrating tech issues I’ve ever encountered: I couldn’t receive the PayPal 2-step verification code on my phone — and I was locked out of my account. π©
I’m sharing this story in case you’re also stuck not receiving PayPal’s security code, feeling helpless, and not sure what to do next. Here’s what I tried — and what finally worked.
π± The Problem: No Security Code from PayPal
Like many users, I use 2-step verification (2FA) with my PayPal account for extra security. But one day, I stopped receiving the SMS verification codes needed to log in.
Here’s what I did at first:
- ✅ Emailed PayPal support – no reply after 2 days.
- π Called Globe, my mobile carrier – no useful feedback.
- π Googled the issue and followed every suggested fix I could find.
Still… nothing. No text. No code. No access.
At this point, I was not just annoyed — I was stressed out thinking I might lose access to my PayPal funds permanently.
π‘ The Fix That Worked (and It Was So Simple)
This morning, after waking up anxious again, I had one last idea:
“What if I uninstall the PayPal app and reinstall it?”
I deleted the app from my phone, reinstalled it… and to my surprise — IT WORKED! π
The verification code finally came through. I logged in without any issues.
π Should I Keep Using 2FA?
Honestly, I’m now torn. While 2FA adds a strong layer of security, this experience made me question whether it’s worth the stress if it fails again.
I haven’t decided whether to turn it off or keep it on, but here’s what I’m considering:
Pros of Keeping 2FA:
- Enhanced protection for my PayPal account πΌπ
- Peace of mind against unauthorized access
Cons:
- Risk of being locked out again if codes don’t arrive π«
- PayPal’s support response is very slow π’
π ️ Tips If You’re Not Receiving PayPal Codes
If you’re going through the same thing, try these steps in order:
- Restart your phone π
- Check signal strength πΆ
- Clear PayPal app cache (or use the web version)
- Ensure your number is active with your mobile provider
- Uninstall and reinstall the PayPal app ✅ ← This worked for me!
- Try logging in from a different device or browser
- Contact PayPal support (but don’t rely solely on them)
- Reach out to your carrier – they might be blocking shortcodes
✍️ I never thought something as simple as a missing text would cause so much anxiety. Tech issues like this are a good reminder to have backups and to never assume things will “just work.”
If you're stuck in the same loop, I hope this helps you out. Sometimes, the solution is the one we least expect. π§©
