📝 Personal Note: I didn’t get to try the buses or even the Ding Ding Tram because we were always rushing. But if you’ve got time and want to experience local culture, buses are a great option!
🚖 Taxis – Door-to-Door
Convenience
Taxi Stand: Just follow the signs after exiting customs (turn left from Airport Express and go down)
Fare: Based on distance (plus extras)
- Luggage Fee: HK$5 per item
- Tunnel/Toll Fees: Additional (we once paid HK$70 extra unknowingly!)
💡 Tip: Always print your destination address in Chinese characters. Most drivers understand basic English, but it’s better to be sure.
🚖 Taxi Color Codes:
- 🔴 Red: Urban taxis (can go anywhere including the airport and Tung Chung)
- 🟢 Green: New Territories taxis (limited to N.T. areas)
- 🔵 Blue: Lantau taxis (serve Lantau Island and the airport)
🚗 Uber – Convenient, But
Pricey
Yes, Uber works in Hong Kong, and while it’s convenient, many locals and travelers report mixed experiences. It’s best used when public transportation is unavailable or inconvenient.
💡 Note: Surge pricing can apply, and wait times may be longer compared to taxis or MTR.
🎫 Book in Advance and Save
Save time and money by booking your transportation, attractions, and even Wi-Fi devices in advance through Klook — especially during peak seasons.
🧳Whether you're visiting Hong Kong for a quick getaway or an extended adventure, the transportation system ensures you’ll spend less time worrying and more time exploring. Just grab your Octopus Card, download the MTR app, and you're all set!
