🛫 A Friendly Guide for First-Time Travelers in Taiwan
This post is especially for first-time travelers or anyone with a layover or connecting flight at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE). I've been there myself, and honestly, it’s one of the most efficient transfer systems I’ve ever experienced. But the different zones and terminals can be a little overwhelming if you’re new — so I created this easy step-by-step guide to help!
If you’ve already read my post about transferring between terminals, this one goes deeper: it’s all about connecting flights, Skytrain routes, and what to do if you already have your boarding pass (or not).
🧭 Terminal 1 Transfers
🔁 Between Zone A and Zone B (Same Terminal)
- Disembark at Zone A or B.
- Follow Arrival signs to the transfer counter in Zone B or A.
- Check in for your next flight.
- Go through security control, then proceed to the 3rd floor (3F) boarding gates.
🚆 Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 (Zone A/B to C/D)
- After disembarking, head to the Skytrain platform beside the transfer lounge.
- Take the Skytrain to Terminal 2.
- Go to the transfer counter in Zone C or D to check in.
- Pass through security control (2F).
- Proceed to the boarding gate (3F).
✈️ Terminal 2 Transfers
🔁 Between Zone C and Zone D (Same Terminal)
- After landing, follow Arrival signs to the transfer counter in Zone D (or C).
- Check in for your next flight.
- Go through security, then proceed to your gate on 3F.
🚆 Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 (Zone C/D to A/B)
- Follow signs to the Skytrain boarding area.
- Ride the Skytrain to Terminal 1.
- Head to the transfer counter in Zone A or B.
- Complete security, then proceed to 3F for boarding.
🧾 Important Notes for Connecting Flights
✅ If You Already Have a Boarding Card:
- Go directly to security control.
- Proceed to Departures level (3F).
- Check your gate number and flight time.
- Arrive at the gate at least 30 minutes before departure.
❌ If You Don't Have a Boarding Card:
- Find your airline’s transfer counter location.
- Follow signs to Zone A/B (T1) or Zone C/D (T2) based on your airline.
- Check in at the transfer counter.
- Go through security control, then head to Departures (3F).
- Double-check your boarding gate and departure time.
🚄 Skytrain Transfer: Terminal 1 ⇄ Terminal 2
- 📍 Located in the Departure Hall
- 🕕 Operates 6:00am–12:00am
- ⏱️ Departs every 2–4 minutes (peak) or 4–8 minutes (off-peak)
- 🌙 After midnight? Press the “Night Time Train” button for on-call service.
💡 Tip: The train ride is smooth and clearly marked. You won’t get lost — just follow the signs.
🌏 Taoyuan International Airport is modern, efficient, and incredibly well-signed, so don’t stress if you’re connecting flights here. Whether you’re flying to Japan, Korea, or Southeast Asia, the process is straightforward once you know what to expect.
I hope this guide makes your journey easier — because travel should be exciting, not confusing!

ReplyDeleteHi I have a question. I am a US citizen, flying from Los Angeles with my connecting flight landing in TPE to travel to Bangkok. I was wondering if I have to go through immigration or if I will just have to follow the transfer route. I am traveling on the 10th of November and just want to be as prepared as possibly as my layover is only 1 hr and 30 minutes.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much
