๐ฝ️ Ending Our Vigan Trip with Local Delicacies
As with every trip, we ended ours the best way we know how—with food! Before checking out of the hotel, we made sure to enjoy lunch at their in-house restaurant and savor the iconic dishes of Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
Vigan is famous for its bagnet, empanada, longganisa, ukoy, poqui-poqui, and chichacorn. If you're visiting, these are must-try local dishes before you leave. Here’s a taste of what we enjoyed:
๐ฅ Vigan Empanada
Crispy, golden, and satisfying.
Empanada is a Filipino favorite not just because it’s tasty, but also because
it's affordable and filling. Vigan empanada is unique for its orange rice-flour
crust and generous fillings of grated papaya, egg, and longganisa.

Pro Tip: Ask for extra sukang Iloko (Ilocos vinegar) for that authentic
tangy kick!

๐ค Ukoy (Vigan Style)
Crunchy shrimp fritters with a punch.
Ukoy, or Okoy, is a deep-fried Filipino appetizer made with unpeeled baby
shrimps (sometimes peeled) and crispy batter. It’s served piping hot and
best paired with spicy vinegar.

Blogger’s Tip: Capture a photo just as it comes out of the fryer—golden
and irresistible!

๐ท Bagnet & Pinakbet with Bagnet
The ultimate crispy pork belly experience.
Bagnet is deep-fried pork belly that’s sun-dried beforehand, giving it an incredible
crunch. It’s often served with pinakbet (vegetable stew) for a complete
Ilocano meal.
๐
Honest Note: While it’s a crowd favorite, it’s not for everyone—and
that’s okay! I personally skipped it this time, but I get the hype.

๐ญ Vigan Longganisa
A garlicky, tangy local sausage unlike any other.
What makes Vigan longganisa special is its sour, salty, and garlicky
flavor profile, thanks to Iloko vinegar and native garlic. The yellowish tint
comes from annatto seeds.
๐
Try This: Grill it and pair with garlic rice for a hearty breakfast!
