One of my favorite places in Hong Kong is the Nan Lian Garden and the Chi Lin Nunnery. It’s incredibly peaceful, serene, and calming — a true escape from the city’s hustle. If I had a free day in Hong Kong, I’d easily spend it here just taking in the beauty and tranquility.
If you’re staying near Yau Ma Tei (like at Silka Seaview Hotel), here’s an easy and detailed guide on how to get there using the MTR.
π¨ From Silka Seaview Hotel to Yau Ma Tei MTR Station
πΆ♀️Walk to Yau Ma Tei MTR Station — it's about 7 minutes from the hotel.

π MTR Route to Diamond Hill Station
From Yau Ma Tei Station, take the Kwun Tong Line (Green Line) toward Tiu Keng Leng, and alight at Diamond Hill Station.
✈️ If Coming from the Airport:
- Take Airport Express to Mei Foo Station
- Transfer to Tsuen Wan Line, ride to Prince Edward
- Transfer to the Kwun Tong Line, ride to Diamond Hill Station
π§ Tip: Check the MTR Station Map carefully at the platform. It’s posted between the rails and shows you exactly where to go.

π Once at Diamond Hill:
- Exit through Exit C2
- Follow the signs toward Plaza Hollywood
- Walk past the escalators going up to the mall
- Stay left and continue straight until you reach the stoplights

πͺ§ You’ll see directional signs to Nan Lian Garden and Chi Lin Nunnery along the way.

Although you’ll spot what looks like the entrance right away, the actual entrance lies ahead, under a bridge. It's a scenic path and quite a surprise when you realize traffic is flowing right above you.
πͺ¨ The path will lead directly to the Main Gate of Nan Lian Garden.

minutes walk from Diamond Hill Station

Entrance is FREE, but you may be required to register at the
entrance.
⛩️ Visiting Chi Lin Nunnery
You can visit the Chi Lin Nunnery either before or after exploring the garden.
From Nan Lian Garden:
- Cross the arched bridge on the upper level
- Enjoy the spectacular view from above
- The entrance to Chi Lin Nunnery is just at the end of the bridge
