🚠 Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car: My Thrilling Ride Above Lantau Island

When I was preparing our Hong Kong itinerary, I was so excited for one thing — the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car ride! I'm actually afraid of heights, but that never stopped me from chasing adventures. I believe travel is about pushing boundaries, and this one definitely did that for me.

πŸ“ Tung Chung Terminal – The Start of the Journey

Tung Chung Terminal Station

We arrived at the Tung Chung Cable Car Station a good 30 minutes before the opening time, and it was the perfect decision — hardly any queue! We booked our tickets via Klook, which gave us a good discount, though we had to wait a bit to claim the actual ticket before heading to the platform.

Once at the platform, we waited for our turn to board the cabin. Each standard cabin can accommodate up to 17 people or a maximum of 1,275 kg.

πŸŒ‰ About the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car

The Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car is 5.7 kilometers long and features a bi-cable ropeway system, the first of its kind in Hong Kong. The ride takes around 25–30 minutes and crosses multiple landscapes — from the cityscape of Tung Chung to the rolling greenery of Lantau Island.

View of the airport from the cabin

As we ascended:

  • We passed over Tung Chung Bay
  • Made a 60-degree turn at the angle station on Airport Island
  • Then continued over North Lantau Country Park
  • Reaching the highest point at Nei Lak Shan Angle Station, which is 560 meters above sea level
View of the Big Buddha from the descending cable car

From there, the cabin began its descent toward Ngong Ping Village, with a magical view of the Tian Tan Buddha (Big Buddha) growing larger with every moment.

🏞️ Scenic Views That Took My Breath Away

At first, I was excited and fearless — snapping photos, taking in the views. But as we climbed higher, I could feel my fear kicking in, especially as we hovered above the mountains. The realization of just how high up we were got to me.

To distract myself, I took more photos. Ironically, taking pictures still required me to look out and down — but I couldn’t resist the mountain trails, the lush valleys, and even the people hiking far below.

πŸ’ I remember wondering how long it would take to walk from those trails up to Ngong Ping. The view was so captivating I momentarily forgot my fear.

πŸ“Έ Souvenir Photos: Worth It?

At the exit, there are official souvenir photos available — HK$300 for a print. Honestly, it was too expensive for me. I skipped it because I had my own camera and could print as many photos as I wanted later. But if you're into collectibles, you might consider getting one.
