✨ Intro: Is It Still the Same After the Pandemic?
The last time I visited Hong Kong Disneyland, these were the 9 themed attractions they offered. A lot has happened since then—lockdowns, expansions, and changing travel trends—so I can’t say for sure if they’ve added or removed some areas after the pandemic. But one thing’s for certain: these themed lands were magical, and each offered something uniquely Disney.
๐ 1. Main Street, U.S.A.
This is the first area you see as you walk into Disneyland. Modeled after small-town America between 1890 and 1910, the Hong Kong version closely resembles California’s Disneyland but is influenced more by European design and built mostly with wood. You’ll find souvenir shops, snack bars, and bakeries lining the sidewalks.
๐ Tip: If you’re budget-conscious like me, skip the shops unless you’ve set aside a “souvenir fund” — they can be pricey!
๐ฐ 2. Fantasyland
This is classic Disney at its finest—with Sleeping Beauty Castle as its centerpiece and attractions like:
- ๐ป The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
- ๐ Cinderella Carousel
- ๐ Dumbo the Flying Elephant
- ๐ก Fantasy Gardens (perfect for character meet-and-greets)
It’s ideal for kids and nostalgic adults like me who grew up with these timeless tales.
๐ด 3. Adventureland
Hong Kong Disneyland’s Adventureland is the largest among all Disney parks. Here you’ll find:
- ๐ณ Tarzan’s Treehouse
- ๐ถ Jungle River Cruise (Disney’s version of Rivers of America)
- ๐ฆ Festival of the Lion King — a must-see live performance!
It’s wild, lush, and full of that adventurous jungle energy.
๐ 4. Tomorrowland
A futuristic land with lots of blue and purple metallic designs. Unique to Hong Kong are:
- ๐ Autopia
- ๐ธ Stitch Encounter
- ๐ฆพ Iron Man Experience — the first ever Marvel ride in a Disney theme park!
๐ก Tip: If you're a Marvel fan, Tomorrowland will feel like home. I spent way too much time geeking out here.
๐ค 5. Toy Story Land
Opened in 2011, this land is exclusive to Asia (only found in Hong Kong and France). Think:
- Giant bamboo stalks as grass ๐ฟ
- Oversized toys like Woody, Rex, paper planes ๐งธ
- Kid-friendly rides and photo ops galore!
It’s perfect for families or anyone who wants to feel like a toy in Andy’s backyard.
⛏ 6. Grizzly Gulch
Hong Kong’s version of Frontierland meets Critter Country. Set in an 1888 mining town called Grizzly Gulch, this area features:
- ๐ข Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars — a thrilling ride with surprise twists
Fun fact: The town was “founded” on August 8, 1888, said to be the luckiest date in Chinese culture!
๐บ 7. Mystic Point
This one’s a personal favorite. Mystic Point opened in 2013 and is all about mystery and magic:
- ๐ Mystic Manor — home to Lord Henry Mystic and his cheeky monkey, Albert
- It’s not haunted… but it sure feels like it might be!
๐ท Tip: The theming here is intricate—don’t rush. Look around for hidden symbols and artistic details!
๐ฆธ♂️ 8. Marvel Area (under Tomorrowland)
As part of Disneyland’s six-year expansion plan, Tomorrowland started incorporating Marvel features:
- ๐ Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters was set to be replaced by a Marvel ride (done in 2018)
- ๐ก Avengers-themed E-ticket attraction planned by 2023
๐ Note: This area was still evolving during my visit. Check current updates to see the final layout!
❄️ 9. Frozen Land (Arendelle)
Set behind Fantasyland, this snowy kingdom opened in 2020 and features:
- ❄️ Frozen-themed sled ride
- ๐ข Frozen dark ride
- Meet-and-greets with Elsa, Anna, and Olaf
๐ฅถ Tip: Dress in layers! It gets chilly in Arendelle (both thematically and literally with indoor A/C).
๐งญ Hong Kong Disneyland may not be as large as its US counterparts, but the level of creativity, detail, and storytelling is world-class. Whether you're a Marvel geek, a princess at heart, or a jungle explorer, there's something here for everyone.
๐ซ Planning a visit? Make sure to check updated maps and schedules post-pandemic. New rides may have opened or some old ones replaced.
