"A journey through history, faith, and timeless architecture"
📍 Sta. Cruz,
Marinduque, Philippines
✨ A Glimpse into the Past
Sta. Cruz Church, built in 1714, is the oldest church in Marinduque. Nestled in the largest town on the island, this historical landmark is a proud symbol of centuries-old devotion and colonial-era architecture.
Though renovated over the years, the original bell tower and altar remain intact, preserving its spiritual and architectural heritage.
🏛️ Church Highlights
- 🕊️ Historic Altar – Still original, richly detailed, and incredibly well-preserved.
- 🎨 Religious Artworks – Vintage paintings, sculptures, and wooden accents line the nave.
- 🕍 Cruciform Design – Like many colonial churches, it has a cross-shaped layout.
- 🌟 Majestic Nave – The grandest I’ve seen in Marinduque, with awe-inspiring depth and detail.
Despite being smaller than the Boac Cathedral, Sta. Cruz Church has its own quiet majesty and charm. Its calm atmosphere and artistic soul left a lasting impression on me.
🧳 Travel Tip
💡 From Buenavista or Boac, Sta. Cruz is a bit of a ride—expect 1.5 to 2 hours by private vehicle. But trust me, if you love old churches like I do, this journey is 100% worth it.
🗓️ Best to go early in the morning to avoid crowds and enjoy the soft natural light for photos.
