🌿 Bakhawan (Mangrove) Eco-Park, Kalibo: A Serene Walk with Nature

πŸ›Ά A Nature-Lover’s Paradise

Our last stop during our tricycle day tour around Kalibo led us to Bakhawan Eco-Park, a peaceful escape into the heart of nature. Located in New Buswang, this former mudflat was transformed into a lush mangrove forest through the efforts of the community, DENR, and the KASAMA organization. Today, it’s one of the most successful mangrove reforestation projects in the Philippines, recognized both locally and internationally.

🏑 Rural Calm & Friendly Locals

As a proud country girl, I instantly felt at home with the slow-paced vibe of the place. We were warmly welcomed by locals at the registration area—some even offered fresh talaba (mussels) harvested from the mangroves. 🌊πŸ¦ͺ

🌿 Breathe in the calm, walk with nature.
If you're looking to escape the buzz of city life or need a quiet spot before heading to Boracay, Bakhawan Eco-Park in Kalibo is a must-visit. Known as one of the most successful mangrove reforestation projects in the Philippines, this serene spot offers a long boardwalk through lush mangrove forests, bamboo huts, and even a small crab farm at the end.

Bring your camera, your curiosity, and maybe a bottle of water—because this isn’t just a walk, it’s a nature immersion experience. 🌊🐚

πŸ’‘ Travel Tip: Ask if you’re eligible for a local discount—you might just save a few pesos like my friend from Iloilo who only paid Php30!

🚢‍♀️ Into the Heart of the Mangroves

We underestimated the trail—we thought the mangroves were just a short walk away. Surprise! The trail spans over a kilometer one way, taking us 1 hour and 10 minutes round trip! 🌴

πŸͺ§ A tribute marker honoring the people of Kalibo stands a few minutes in. A kind reminder from elderly passersby gave us the motivation we needed: “You’re not even close.”

πŸ›– Nipa Huts & A Seaside Reward

At the second nipa hut, one of my friends almost gave up. But after resting, we pushed through—and were rewarded by a breathtaking view of the sea. 🌊

The cool breeze and coastal view made the long walk worthwhile. Hunger kicked in, but the sense of peace and the sound of the sea made it all okay. We stayed for a while, soaked in the view, then headed back.

πŸ’†‍♀️ Post-Trek Comfort

Back at the entrance, the canteen and gift shop welcomed us with shade and native chairs. They even offer massage services—a perfect treat after a long walk!
