๐Ÿ‘‘ The Lapau and Dewan Majlis – Royal Ceremonial Sites in Brunei

If you're fascinated by royal traditions and state ceremonies, then a quick stop at The Lapau and the Dewan Majlis in Bandar Seri Begawan is a must when visiting Brunei.

๐Ÿ›️ The Lapau (Royal Ceremonial Hall)

Locally known as Lapau, this stunning building is where Brunei’s royal traditional ceremonies are held. Important rites such as the Istiadat Berusuruh Diraja (Royal Marriage Proposal Ceremony) and other court rituals take place here.

But perhaps the most notable event held in this hall was the coronation of the current Sultan, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. Inside, the hall boasts an exquisite golden dome, making it as regal as the traditions it upholds.

๐Ÿ“ธ Unfortunately, the interior is not open to the public without official permission, but even from the outside, the Lapau is a photographer's delight—especially for those interested in Islamic architecture and monarchy-themed sites.

๐Ÿข Dewan Majlis (Old Parliament House)

Adjacent to the Lapau is the old Dewan Majlis, Brunei’s former Parliament House. While the structure no longer hosts parliamentary sessions, it remains a symbol of the country’s legislative history.

Much like the Lapau, entry is restricted, but the building can be admired from outside—elegant and stately, a perfect counterpart to the royal ceremonial hall beside it.

๐Ÿ“ Location & Travel Tips

๐Ÿ“Œ Address: Jalan Sungai Kianggeh, Bandar Seri Begawan
๐Ÿงญ It’s along the route to the Royal Regalia Museum and the Brunei History Centre from the city center.
๐ŸšŒ If you’re coming from Central BSB, you can reach it on foot or via a short taxi or bus ride.

➡️ Just across the road is the Pusat Belia (Youth Centre)—a landmark you can use when asking for directions.

๐Ÿ“ I didn’t get to go inside, but just standing outside and seeing the beautiful blend of tradition and elegance made me pause and admire its cultural value. Sometimes, you don’t need to step inside a building to feel its significance—the presence speaks for itself.

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Bring a zoom lens or a good phone camera to capture the dome details and surrounding architecture.
