๐ก Why It Made Our Itinerary
When I was preparing our itinerary for our Hong Kong trip, one of the first things I was excited about was seeing the Symphony of Lights. I had read so many travel blogs and watched YouTube videos showing this iconic light and sound show across Victoria Harbour—and I couldn’t wait to see it for myself.
Even though our schedule was a bit tight, I made sure to fit it into our day, even after our trip to The Peak.
๐ Timing Is Everything
Here’s a planning tip:
When you’re building an itinerary, always double-check the opening and show times of major attractions. I wanted to make sure we were back from The Peak in time for the 8:00 PM start of the Symphony of Lights, and surprisingly, our return trip was quicker than expected.
So we had some breathing room—and even managed to browse through some stores along the harbor before the show.
๐ถ Getting to the Show
We arrived at the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, and wow—it was already packed with people by the time we got there! We had to squeeze in just to find a decent viewing spot.
⛴️ Best Viewing Areas:
- Tsim Sha Tsui Waterfront (Avenue of Stars)
- Golden Bauhinia Square, Wan Chai (for HK Island view)
- Or from a Harbour Cruise for a more relaxing, uncrowded view
๐ Our Honest Take
We sat and waited... and didn’t even realize the show had already started.
To be completely honest? In my opinion, it’s a bit overrated. Maybe it was the fatigue from the day, or the underwhelming volume of the music and lights. It just didn’t hit as dramatically as the online videos made it seem.
But hey—that’s part of travel too. Not everything hits the same in person, and that’s okay.
๐ธ Should You Still Go?
Yes, I still think it’s worth checking out at least once. It’s a free show, it runs daily, and if you get a good spot with the skyline in the background, it’s a classic “I’m in Hong Kong!” moment.
Maybe your experience will be different than ours. Maybe you'll have a clearer sky, better energy, or catch it from a harbor cruise and be totally blown away. ๐

๐ How to Get There – Simple Directions
Here’s how we got to the show:
✅ MTR Route (Most Convenient)
- Took the Tsuen Wan Line (Red) to Tsim Sha Tsui Station
- Followed signs to Exit J or L6 for Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade
- Walked 5–7 minutes to the Avenue of Stars, just by the water
It was really easy to follow, especially with plenty of signs in English and helpful locals around. You’ll know you’re close when you start seeing more tourists and cameras pointed at the skyline!
๐ Travel isn’t always postcard-perfect—and that’s okay. We were tired, yes, and the crowd didn’t help, but I’m still glad we went. We made the memory, and now I can share an honest story with you.
