⚰️ A Burial Site Turned Gateway to Adventure
Lumiang Cave—also known as the Burial Cave—is both historically sacred and wildly adventurous. Over 100 wooden coffins, some dating back 500 years, are stacked at the cave's entrance. These are remains of the indigenous Igorot people, and the site is treated with respect.
๐ฃ Travel Tip: Stay silent and respectful at the burial entrance—this is more than just a photo stop.
๐ Inside Lumiang Cave: The True Start of the Adventure
As your feet descend the steep stone steps, the real journey begins. Inside, you’ll be met with:
- ๐ง♂️ Rappelling down slippery boulders
- ๐ณ️ Crawling through tight passages
- ๐ฆ Swimming (or wading) through icy water pools
- ๐ Navigating pitch darkness with only a kerosene lamp or headlamp
⚠️ Not for the faint-hearted or those with claustrophobia!
๐ค My Experience: First-Timer but Fired Up!
I’ve never entered a cave before—and this was no beginner’s trail. But when asked if I wanted to do just the spelunking or the full Cave Connection (Lumiang to Sumaguing), I knew I had to go all in.
๐ Thankfully, my friends agreed—because doing the cave connection alone would be scary and risky.
We had two accredited guides since our group was large. They briefed us clearly on safety, pace, and communication. Every climb, crawl, and awkward slide was worth it for what was waiting below.
๐ก Cave Tip: Don’t hesitate to ask your guide for assistance—they’re trained and experienced!
๐ฅ The Thrill Factor: Cave Connection to Sumaguing
After 45 minutes inside Lumiang, you’ll realize you’re only getting started. The formations inside are already jaw-dropping, but our guide told us:
"What you’re seeing now is just the beginning—Sumaguing Cave is where the magic happens."
That boosted our energy despite being wet, cold, and tired. The darkness and slippery rocks became part of the thrill.
๐ What to Expect Along the Way:
- Tight squeezes and tunnel slides
- Freezing natural pools
- Breathtaking rock formations
- A mental and physical endurance challenge
