Church of Our Lady of Assumption: The Only Catholic Church in Bandar Seri Begawan

When I was preparing our itinerary my friend told me that I have to include us attending the mass in Brunei. Brunei is a Muslim country so I had to search for the nearest Catholic Church and found the Church of our Lady of Assumption. It's about 15 minutes walk from city proper and along the way are the other attractions in Brunei.

The church is very strict during the mass so we had to be there before that start of the mass. Otherwise, we will not be able to attend because they close the door during the ceremony. The mass is in English and was performed by a Singaporean priest. Most of the people attending the mass are Filipinos, the rest are Indians & Bruneians. A Tagalog mass is performed every 1st Sunday of the Month and Sunset Mass is performed every Saturday. If you're interested in attending a mass there, please see below:

Mass Schedule:
Monday: 6:00pm
Tuesday: 6:00pm
Wednesday: 6:00pm

1st Sunday (Tagalog Mass): 7:00am

How to Get to Our Church of Lady of Assumption:
  • Walk from Jubilee Hotel to the main road, the same road going to Tamu Kianggeh, but instead of turning left, turn right facing the Lapau & Dewan Majilis (Royal Ceremonial Hall). You can either cross to the other side or do it when you're near your destination.

  • Walk straight up ahead, pass by the Pusat Belia Youth Centre & Hostel until you see Radisson Hotel from afar.

  • On the next block after the long brick-wall, turn left. Keep on walking until you reach the shady park with colorful tarps and parasols.
  • Walk straight ahead, you'll see on your right the St. Andrews Anglican Church. Keep walking, until you see the church on the right side.
  • Just follow your way back when you are ready to go back to the hotel. And if you have enough time, drop by at the Royal Regalia or Lapau & Dewan Majilis along the way.
