How to Get Out of Taiwan Taoyuan (TPE) International Airport?

Last Updated: September 22, 2017
Like most International Airports, Taoyuan also has a complete array of transportation choices to get to your desired destination. There’s the THSR shuttle bus routes network connecting the airport, Novotel Hotel, and THSR stations; providing comfortable, convenient, low-cost and practical transportation option for travelers. There’s also a taxi and a pre-arranged car services. It just depends if you want convenience more than price or adventure more than the convenience.

EXPRESS TRAIN
Another addition to Taiwan's convenient transportation is the express train from Airport to Taipei. When we went there last year, it's still under construction, and now, when I was preparing an itinerary for a friend, I found out that it's up and running already. You can now easily transfer from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 to Taipei. Please note, however, that there are only 3 destinations via the Express Train. Nevertheless, it's a big help for those who will travel straight to Taipei from the airport. To know more about the train and the schedule, please visit their website at www.tymetro.com.tw.

COMMUTER TRAIN
Aside from an express train, there's also the commuter train that operates from Airport to other selected stations in Taiwan. It's a little slow from the express train, but better than taking a bus to your desired destination. Also, it has more stops than the express train. To check the fare and trip schedule, please visit their website at www.tymetro.com.tw.

TAXI
Taxis can be found at the west side of both terminals’ Arrivals Lobby. To ensure the safety of passengers, only the taxis approved by the Aviation Police Bureau are permitted to operate in Taoyuan Airport. Taxis are available at Taoyuan Airport 24 hours a day. A one-way taxi fare between the airport and Taipei will cost at the minimum NT$900 (generally NT$1000–$1200 from the airport). In Taipei, don't make the mistake of asking a taxi driver to take you to the Taipei airport (Songshan) if you actually mean Taiwan Taoyuan Airport. The international airport is actually about an hour's drive from Taipei, while Songshan is in downtown Taipei.
Airport taxis charge according to the meter in addition to a 50% surcharge (highway tolls not included) and provide transport to anywhere in Taiwan. (A typical taxi fare to Taipei is approx. NT$1,100.)

For further information about Terminal I Taxis, please call (03) 398-2832. For further information about Terminal II Taxis, please call (03) 398-3599. To report a complaint about airport taxi service, please call (03) 398-2241 or (03) 398-2177.

CAR SERVICE
You can pre-arrange a car pick-up from Airport to your desired destination. Below are the websites where you can pre-arrange a car to pick you up at the airport. Here are the companies that offer affordable price for car service.
RAIL
The Taoyuan International Airport Access MRT System is scheduled to begin service in December 2015 and will link both terminals to Taipei and Zhongli, Taoyuan. Express services will allow for travel to Taipei Station in 35 minutes.
The Taiwan High Speed Rail Taoyuan Station is about 8 km (5 mi) away and is accessible by shuttle bus. When the Airport Access MRT System is completed, the station will also be accessible by rail. It is also easy to get to the High Speed Rail station from the airport.

BUS
Frequent buses link the airport to Taipei, Taoyuan City, Jhongli, Taichung, Banqiao, Changhua, and THSR's Taoyuan Station. Bus terminals are present at both terminals.
There is a bus that runs approximately every 15 minutes from the airport to the Taoyuan High Speed Rail station. From there, you can catch one of the HSR trains to Taipei Main Station (where it is easy to take a taxi or MRT to your final destination). The bus is NT$30 and the train is NT$160. On the way back, there are check-in counters at the station for China Airlines, EVA Air flights.

MEETING PASSENGERS:
LCD closed-circuit TV monitors are installed in the passenger meeting areas of the arrival halls to enable persons who are meeting passengers to see them enter the lobby.

General Pick-up:
  • If you are picking up a passenger by car, you may wait for them in the auto boarding area (small vehicle lane) on the arrivals side of the terminal. There are clearly marked meeting points for passengers’ convenience.
  • To avoid causing traffic congestion in the small vehicle lane, at peak periods we suggest that drivers picking up passengers should wait in the parking lot (parking is free up to 30 minutes).
Pickup Service for Foreign Laborers:
  • Agencies and employers may apply to the Foreign Workers Arrival Service Counter for airport pickup services for foreign laborers.
