Fun facts about transportation you might be interested knowing:

  • On many airlines, each pilot eats a different meal to minimize the risk of all pilots on board being ill. No difference at all when there's only one pilot on board.
  • One third of all the airports in the world are located in the US.

  • The shortest airline flight that you can buy tickets for lasts just 2 minutes and runs from Scottish island of Westray to Papa Westray.

  • In 1987, American Airlines saved $40,000  by removing one olive from each salad served in first class. Now we know how expensive olive is at that time.

  • Traveling from Moscow to Vladivostok is the longest rail journey in the world.  It takes 7 days through the frozen taiga forests, totaling 9,302km (5,780miles).  It's cheap but considering the journey you might want to take a plane instead.

  • If you want to experience the fastest train ride of your life, go to China. The Maglev train covers the intervening 30km (19miles) from downtown Shanghai to Pudong International Airport. In just 8 minutes and with a top speed of 501km/h (311mph), it's quite a ride.
