๐Ÿ›️ Casa Comunidad de Tayabas: A Window Into Quezon’s Colonial Past

"A Historical Landmark You Might Miss if You’re Not Looking Closely"

๐Ÿš️ A Surprise Along the Streets of Tayabas

I wasn’t planning on seeing anything in Tayabas beyond the church and market when I stumbled upon Casa Comunidad. I was walking from the church, hoping to spot some old houses, when I saw this large, weathered building with an arched entrance that read “Mayohan sa Tayabas.” That was my clue: this place has a story.

At first glance, it looked like a large bahay na bato, the kind I’d usually photograph for its timeless charm. But this one? It held more than just architectural value—it was a witness to history.

๐Ÿ“– A Site of Judgment: Hermano Pule’s Trial

This building is where Apolinario “Hermano Pule” Dela Cruz, the young Lucban-born revolutionary, was tried and sentenced to death by Spanish colonial authorities.

Back then, Casa Comunidad served as one of the grand tribunals of the country. Today, it stands as a museum and national library, reminding visitors of the town’s deep political and cultural past.

๐Ÿ–ผ️ What You’ll See (and Might Miss)

Unfortunately, when I visited, the museum was closed. I settled for peeking through the windows and exploring the ground floor, where they had a print-out display of historical accounts and an old calesa (horse-drawn carriage) on show.

Even though it was locked, just being near it and knowing what took place within its walls gave me goosebumps.

๐Ÿ›️ Restored by the National Historical Institute in 1991, it still feels like a structure trying to hold onto its story — and its dignity. Some areas look neglected, but the charm and weight of its history are very much alive.

๐Ÿ“Œ Location & Visiting Tips

๐Ÿ“ Casa Comunidad de Tayabas is located along the main street near Tayabas Church and public market — you can easily walk to it.

๐Ÿ•ฐ️ Visiting Tip: Come on weekdays if you want to catch the museum open. Weekends can be hit-or-miss, especially if no one is on duty.

๐Ÿ“ธ Best photo spot: From the street view, facing the arched entrance with the “Mayohan sa Tayabas” sign.

๐Ÿ’ฌ If you’re a fan of heritage sites and lesser-known history, Casa Comunidad is a meaningful detour. It doesn’t scream “tourist spot,” but if you slow down and pay attention, you’ll feel the echoes of the past.
