🏛️ A Legacy Etched in Stone: Discovering Manuel Quezon’s Message to His People

✍️ A Letter by Former President Manuel L. Quezon
"My fellow citizens…"

I wasn’t expecting to stumble upon something so powerful during my quick visit to the Quezon Provincial Capitol in Lucena. I was just planning to take a few photos of the grand architecture and maybe roam around Perez Park. But then I saw it — engraved on a marble slab near the monument of President Manuel L. Quezona letter written straight from the heart of a leader to his people.

Reading it gave me goosebumps. It wasn’t just a message. It was a call to love the Philippines with all our hearts — to live and even die for it if we must. It spoke about sacrifice, courage, and a belief in a better, freer future. And what struck me most is how relevant and moving his words still are today.

If you ever find yourself in Lucena, don’t just pass by this monument. Take a moment to read the full inscription. Let it sink in. Because this isn't just a historical footnote — it's a reminder of who we are as Filipinos.

🕊️ A Letter from the Heart of a President

On this land, soaked with the sweat and sacrifice of heroes, Former President Manuel L. Quezon wrote these powerful words to his fellow Filipinos — words that still echo through time and awaken our love for country.

📝 Message to My People

By President Manuel L. Quezon

My fellow citizens, there is one thought which I want you to have in mind.

And that is that you are Filipinos, that the Philippines is your country, and the only country God has given you:

That you must keep it for yourselves, for your children, and your children’s children,
Until the world is no more — and that you must live for it and die for it, if necessary.

Your country is a great country.
It has a great past, a great present, and a great future.

The Philippines of yesterday was consecrated by the sacrifices of lives and pleasure of your patriots, martyrs, and soldiers.

The Philippines of today is honored by the wholehearted devotion to its cause of unselfish and courageous statesmen.

The Philippines of tomorrow will be a country of plenty, of happiness, and of freedom.

It will be a Philippines with her head raised in the midst of the West Pacific,
Mistress of her own destiny,
Holding in her hand the torch of freedom and democracy,
And pointing the way to the teeming millions of Africa and Asia, now suffering under alien rule.

A Philippines, heir in the Orient to the teachings of Christianity:

And a Republic of virtuous and righteous men and women, all working together
For a better world than the one we have at present.

🇵🇭  Why This Letter Still Matters

This wasn’t just political rhetoric — it was a blueprint for national pride and a call to action that transcends generations.

🕯️ It reminds us:

  • That patriotism is inherited and lived.
  • That freedom is sacred and must be defended.
  • That our future lies in unity and responsibility.

💡 Read this letter during Araw ng Kalayaan or Quezon Day (August) with your family. Let young Filipinos hear what leadership used to sound like — rooted in sacrifice and hope.
