π A Quick Note from Me Before You Go...
When I first traveled to South Korea, I didn’t realize how dynamic and fast-changing the entry rules and tourism landscape could be. If you are planning on travelling to South Korea, here's how to be prepared and inspired.
From visa-free entries and futuristic eArrival systems to BTS-fueled tourism spikes and even lovebug swarms (yes, really!), here’s a personal and practical guide to everything you need to know about visiting South Korea in 2025.
✈️ K-ETA Waiver Still in Effect (For Some!)
If you're from Australia, the US, Japan, Singapore, most
of Europe, and a few other countries (22 in total), you're still exempt
from applying for a K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) until
Dec 31, 2025.
✅
No fees. ✅ No waiting. ✅ Just book and go!
π Check if your country is on the list here: www.k-eta.go.kr
π§Ύ New! eArrival Card Now Required
Starting Feb 24, 2025, most visitors (who don't need
a K-ETA) are now required to submit an eArrival Card online within 72
hours before arrival.
π₯️
It's free, simple, and replaces the paper forms.
If you forget? Don't panic—you can still fill it out on paper until the end of 2025, but online is faster (and saves you from long queues at immigration).
π‘ Pro tip: Take a screenshot of your submission confirmation before flying!
π Festivals to Plan Your Trip Around
South Korea knows how to party—and not just with K-pop!
πΈ Korea Welcome Week (Apr 25–May 16)
- Travel deals at airports, ports, and shopping areas
- Multilingual help booths
- Cultural experiences across Seoul and Busan
π€ K-Pop Takes Over!
- Seoul hotel bookings rose by 30% during recent BTS and girl group events
- Expect packed venues, energetic fans, and vibrant pop-up stores
- Must-watch: Busan One Asia Festival (BOF), BTS Festa, Waterbomb Festival
πΆ DMZ Peace Train Music Festival
- A surreal mix of rock, indie, hip hop and a backdrop near North Korea
- A once-in-a-lifetime festival experience
π Fun but Not-So-Fun: Lovebugs Are Real!
We were all laughing about it... until I saw the videos.
In Gyeyangsan Mountain near Seoul, these harmless but clingy “lovebugs”
show up in massive clouds during the warmer months.
They don’t bite, but you might not want them in your selfies. πͺ²π
π‘ Bring insect repellent or avoid forest trails during peak humidity.
𧳠Health & Immigration Reminders
- Q-Code health form may still be required if you're arriving from countries with health alerts (check your airline or embassy site)
- Fines of up to ₩10,000,000 for failing to comply with entry/health checks
- Insurance is highly recommended (especially for medical coverage)
