π΅π Cebu's Other Pride: Handcrafted Guitars
When people talk about Cebu, the first thing that usually comes to mind is Lechon. But for music lovers and craftsmen, Cebu is also home to the best handmade guitars in the Philippines — and Alegre Guitars leads the pack.
Located in Barangay Abuno, Lapu-Lapu City — known as the "guitar capital of Cebu" — Alegre Guitars is famous not just locally but internationally, with many of their instruments being exported abroad.
πΆ Whether you’re a serious guitarist or just curious, visiting this workshop is a must.
π ️ Inside Alegre: How Guitars Are Made
πͺ΅ At Alegre Guitars, each piece is lovingly handcrafted — from selecting the wood to assembling the final instrument. The staff are friendly and accommodating, and they’re happy to take you around their workshop, where you can watch the entire process of guitar-making.
π¨ The variety is impressive! They offer guitars in all sizes — from basic travel-sized units to high-end collectible pieces made from Rosewood and other exotic hardwoods.
π° Price Range:
- Small Guitars: ~Php800
- Mid-range: ~Php2,000–Php10,000
- Premium Guitars (Rosewood, export quality): Up to Php50,000
And yes — I was told the Php50,000 Rosewood guitar is a favorite among collectors!
π Not Just Guitars: Souvenirs Galore

π️ Pro tip: These items are cheaper here than in city malls — perfect for pasalubong!
π My Experience at Alegre
I’m not a guitar player (though I’d love to learn someday), but walking into Alegre Guitars was inspiring. I was amazed by the level of artistry and the diversity of instruments on display.
One of the staff even took the time to explain the materials and process. I only remembered one thing clearly though — the Rosewood guitar — because it was stunning and expensive π.
We were even lucky enough to meet one of the Alegre family members — the granddaughter of the founder! It felt special to connect with the legacy behind the name.

ReplyDeleteHi Samuel, I don't know much about guitars, but I believed you are right. The quality and of course the price of the guitar depends on the wood they are using. There's this one guitar in there made in rosewood and it's really expensive. It really depends on the wood they are using
