π Quick Peek into the Chocolate Hill
If you're arriving in Bohol via Tubigon Port and can’t wait to jumpstart your adventure, Sagbayan Peak is the perfect first stop. Only a short drive away, this government-owned mountain resort offers a panoramic preview of the world-famous Chocolate Hills—without the crowds you’d normally face in Carmen.

π Up Close with the Tarsier — But Gently
Sagbayan Peak houses a Tarsier viewing cage just beside the ticket booth.
π Open daily from 9:00 AM. Entrance is free, but donations for their care are appreciated.
⚠️ Tip: Tarsiers are extremely sensitive. Flash photography and touching them are strictly prohibited.
On my first visit, our guide was friends with the caretaker, so we got a rare moment with a tarsier perched on our shoulders. I was holding my breath the whole time! On my second visit in 2016, stricter rules were in place—which I totally support.
π° First Plateau: Where the Adventure Begins
As soon as you reach the First Plateau, you’re greeted by familiar characters like π¦ T-Rex, Mickey Mouse, and other whimsical statues. It's Instagrammable and nostalgic!
π§ Tip: This area is perfect for small kids and first-time visitors—bring your camera, but skip the flash.
π§ Second Plateau: CafΓ©s, Souvenirs, and Seasonal Surprises
At the Second Plateau, you’ll find:
- ☕ Cafe Baudilio – Try their local Boholano dishes and dine with a view of the Chocolate Hills.
- π️ Souvenir & Snack Shops – Don’t forget to grab a Tarsier keychain or local delicacies.
- πΈ Seasonal Displays – There's always something new depending on the month—last time, it was Valentine’s Day hearts!
π Viewing Deck: Your 360-Degree Sneak Peek
The Sagbayan Viewing Deck gives you a 360° view of the Chocolate Hills and even the blue sea that separates Bohol from Cebu. The path is scenic, lined with pine trees and native plants—best visited in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat.
πΏ Tip: Go early to avoid the heat and crowds. The walk is long, but the view is 100% worth it!
π¦ Butterfly Dome: A Gentle Encounter with Nature
π️ Entrance Fee: Php10.00
π While the dome didn’t have many butterflies during my visits (due to extreme summer heat), the caretaker showed us the entire life cycle—from egg to chrysalis to butterfly.
π¦ Tip: Visit if you have spare time and support their conservation efforts. A great learning stop for kids.
π’ Kidstown & Zipline: For the Young and the Young-at-Heart
Kidstown is the latest family attraction here! It’s located past the second plateau and surrounded by pine trees. A playful statue of Marilyn Monroe marks the trail.
- π§ Kidstown – Filled with animal statues and cartoon characters.
- π‘ Zipline – A kid-safe, low-altitude ride that’s fun and gentle. I skipped it because I felt too heavy π, but it’s perfect for kids!
π Tip: Go here after lunch when the kids need to burn some energy!
π Sagbayan Waterpark: Cool Down After the Climb
π Located just across the
peak.
π§
Entrance Fee: Php50
π
Cottage Rental: Php50 with free drink
This popular spot is loved by locals and great for cooling off after exploring the peak. The next time I return, I’ll bring swimwear and stay longer. You should too!
πΊ️ Getting There

Rent a car with a local driver for comfort and convenience
πΊ
Budget Option: Hire a tricycle from nearby towns like Tubigon
π€ Tip: Don’t hesitate to ask locals for directions. Boholanos are some of the kindest people I’ve met!
